The Upside of Second Saturday

Sac News & Review has a nice writeup on the upside of Second Saturday. Amid talk of the trouble that’s plagued the “Art Walk” in the past few weeks, it’s good to know that some venues are staying true to the original intent…

One of Second Saturday’s charms is that normal businesses can moonlight as live-music venues. So it goes at Barber’s Shop Automotive (1116 18th Street), a regular art-walk spot known for uptempo rock ’n’ roll and good family-friendly vibes. This month, Pronouns (www.myspace.com/pronounsband), an instrumental-rock troupe with a penchant for addictive, math-rock-esque guitar noodling; the Speed of Sound in Seawater (www.myspace.com/thespeedofsoundinseawater); and Brassaï (www.myspace.com/brassaimusic) will kick the night off early, at 5:30 p.m. And, as most Second Saturday events, this gig is free and all-ages.

We look forward to bringing more of the same good times when Second Saturday returns to Barber’s in April 2011.

Second Saturdays @ Barber’s Shop

Midtown is the place to be in the evenings on Second Saturday and Barber’s Shop is at the epicenter of the action. The energy on the streets is amazing with plenty of live music, parties, and events at every turn. The people watching is epic.

We have been throwing live music shows at the shop for the last couple of years. The music has been very well received and the crowds have been consistently growing. We’ve even had several Sammie winning bands on the marquee.

People often ask if the Second Saturday events go year-round… In fact, they do! Some of our best shows have taken place in the cold of winter. We only lay off when the rains get too heavy.

Stop by and say “Hi”! We would love to see you. We can talk scooters, old cars, or about that special project you have in mind.

What We Do…

With more than 30 years of dedicated service, we pride ourselves on creating a lasting relationship with both our customers and our community. We regularly participate in Second Saturday events to benefit the local Arts community, sponsor exhibits at the Sacramento Automotive Museum, and host events to raise funds for local charities. We hold our Open House in October with the help of The Burgundy Topz Scooter Club. The event features a beautiful selection of fine automobiles, scooters and motorcycles as well as a spaghetti sauce cook-off that’s gained a certain amount of notoriety here in Midtown.

We look forward to many more years here in this beautiful city, and hope that you will join us at one of our events. Of course, you’re welcome to stop by any time just to say hello!

Sign up for the mailing list and we’ll keep you posted on all of our upcoming events!
